Being two-thirds of the earth’s surface covered with water, it is not surprising that seaweeds include most of the vegetation and supply the most oxygen on the planet. While the number of different species of seaweed founded around the world is incalculable, only a few species are harvested for commercial uses.
In contrast to land plants, seaweeds have no distinct leaves, roots, or stems. However, as land plants, their growth is affected by absorption of solar energy (photosynthesis). The respiration and absorption of minerals and nutrients from the salty water that surrounds them, is run through the leaf blades (fronds). Furthermore, the algae of the littoral zone are made up like a stem, and an adhesive organ.
